Kerry Sail Company is owned and run by Rob Jones. Rob has been living in Brandon Bay since 1995, after his passions, windsurfing and surfing and Rosie lured him away from his hometown of Cambridge UK. He repaired his first sail in 1997 and is now firmly established as the leading repairer of kites and sails in Ireland.
When Rob isn’t working, (which is most of the time), or hanging with Rose and their daughter Hannah (all the time !), he’ll try and get in the water somehow. 30 years of windsurfing has filled the boots though, and its not so important to score every wave these days! Still getting the itch when its ‘all time’ !!
Tane' (pronounced TANNEE ) is Rob’s 4 legged best friend. Joined the team in 2001, he’ll be at the beach, or in the passenger seat of the van wherever Rob goes. Bring a spare sandwich and he’ll also be your best friend! .......!
Concerts are where Rob will be when not child minding, in the loft or trying to injure himself.. Any gig that features Jack White live will be worth a ticket,, so if The Dead Weather, Raconteurs, White Stripes or Jack himself are playing live somewhere, the loft will probably be closed (again!). BBC radio 6 has been on in the loft lately, talking of music.. Wall to wall commercial free audio bliss. Also check out “the dirtbag diaries” on iTunes.. Love em.
If the phone goes unanswered, and its ‘drive time’ for school kids, Rob is driving the Castlegregory School Bus. Not only bringing the kids to and from school, he’s also checking the surf around Brandon Bay, educating the little people in good music, and being kept young by association!
Last but not least is Spillanes Bar on the honours list! This is the best place to have a drink, a steak, some seafood or even just a coffee. You’re also more than likely to bump into any one of the local windsurfers or kiters here. More than just a pub and restaurant, Spillanes is the hub of the watersports fraternity and will be the best place to find out where the action on the water will be tomorrow!
